These sculptures were made using beach and forest litter collected by the Year 6 children of Milford on sea Church of England Primary School (MOSPS). They were reinforced with Modroc plaster bandage and painted by the children (age 10). They represent issues relevant to our place at this time.

Village Green: Follow our sculpture trail!
Sits at the center of the village on the green inviting people to come and see what it is all about. The green is the heart of the village, with plant fairs, music festivals, bake sales and services of all sorts taking place here regularly. This model holds a friendly space amongst picnics and summer beers.

Churchyard: The earth is the Lord's and everything in it.
This was my tester model - built entirely from litter I collected in an hours walk from my house to the beach. I had planned to paint in only blue, but was inspired by the illustrations the children added to their models, and so I added local birds and wildflowers to mine. It invites us to consider how we would interact as members of a joint ecological community if we believed that ‘Creation proclaims the glory of God’.

Secret meadow: When we play our part we make a difference in the world
This meadow is accessible by a small gate in the churchyard hedge. It is maintained by the parish council and volunteers from the village gardening club and regularly used by the village nursery. In 2023 A planning application on a small adjacent parcel of land was rejected as a result of the strong opposition from the community and thanks to a small number of volunteers who organized the community response. The meadow remains a quiet and reflective place, and a haven for wildlife.

Danestream: Let's keep our rivers clean!
As we installed this model, we noticed a beer can and plastic bottle floating in the river. The children chose this messgage as they are well aware of water pollution from rubbish and sewage discharges, and the impact this has on local wildlife, residenhs and visitors. This river floods; with increased rainfall predicted with global heating, we are likely to face higher and faster water levels in this rich habitat. The pleasure gardens are rich with local wildlife, thanks to the ‘Milford Conservation Volunteers’ (MCV) who maintain this area. The sign reads “Thank you to the MCV for keeping this place beautiful!’

Sea park: Please take your rubbish home!
This message was written by the children in response to the beach litter they regularly find at the beach, which also form the bases of all these models. This body was built with a fishing crate, plastic bottles and part of a traffic cone.

Keyhaven: By the time we are 80, under current CO2 emissions, the sea will be at our feet.
Where the concept for this project was born. A key issue facing our coastal community is sea level rise. With thermal expansion and sea level rise already built into the ocean system, our sea will be 50cm-1m higher than current levels. With continued CO2 emissions, this could be 1m-2m.
The Environment Agency is working on a coastal protection strategy for this area, it will take years to develop and likely include land loss to the sea and a dramatic change to the coastline.
These sculptures are modelled on the children who built them, who themselves will see these changes.
