Climate refugees

In 2021, The UNHCR estimated 20 million people have become displaced as a result of climate change. These include people forced to leave their homes due to experience of extreme heat (more than 50 degrees C), loss of livelihoods from failed crops, and impacts of floods, wildfires, tornadoes, desertification, sea-level rise, draught and landslides all of which are now more severe and more frequent under a 1.1C world.

This number does not include those that have lost their lives as a result of these ‘natural’ disasters.
